4 Prayer Life Hacks: Keeping Close to God in the Chaos of Life.
I don’t know about you guys, but life can feel overwhelming, with endless to-do lists and responsibilities pulling me each direction. But, spending time with God doesn’t have to be another chore or time-consuming. With a few simple hacks, you can weave moments of prayer and connection with God into your daily routine, no matter how busy you are. This is how I stay connected!
1. Opening Your Day with God
Starting your day with prayer sets the tone for everything that follows.
Wake Up 10 Minutes Earlier: Dedicate the first few moments of your day to prayer and reflection before the chaos begins. This intentional act can transform your mindset. (I make my coffee first, don’t worry- there’s no right or wrong way to spend time with God. He just wants us to grow and spend time with Him) You can start small, even just a short prayer from the heart can invite God’s presence and guidance into your day.
Keep a Devotional by Your Bedside: Begin your morning with a scripture passage or devotional to center your thoughts on God. This was my first step to actually reading some of His word every day. My women’s devotional, tucked on my nightstand. Just having my Christian books out gave me more motivation to dig into them.
2. Put Prayer into your Daily Activities
Finding time to pray doesn’t always mean setting aside large chunks of time.
Pray During Commutes: Turn your drive, bus ride, or walk into a conversation with God. Alternatively, listen to worship music or scripture. Surround yourself with Him, in every aspect of your life and you truly won’t go wrong!
Turn Chores into Worship: Use repetitive tasks like washing dishes or folding laundry as opportunities to pray or meditate on scripture.
Use Waiting Times: Transform idle moments- such as waiting in line or at appointments- into prayer breaks. Call on Jesus to mentor you, to advise you, to guide you in your work days. When you’re waiting on that email response or phone call, don’t forget there is someone else who wants to hear from you, too!
3. Use Technology to Stay Spiritually Connected
Leverage technology to enhance your prayer life: We always have our phones on us, and this is a personal favorite of mine.
Prayer Apps and Reminders: Set daily alarms or use apps designed to prompt moments of prayer. A few of my favorites: Bible Bless, and Bible. There are so many, and what I love most is that I can just check to see what time it is, and I’ll read whatever bit of scripture it has sent me. I’m digesting His word at every corner, you can, too!
Listen to Audio Devotionals: Whether you’re working out or running errands, audio devotionals keep you spiritually fed on the go. YouVersion Bible App, Abide & Pray.com are AMAZING!!! I suggest you run and download them. You won’t be disappointed!
4. Involving Your Family or Community
While our PERSONAL relationship with the Lord is the most important thing- Prayer doesn’t have to be a solo activity.
Family Prayer Time: Set aside time to pray as a family, such as before meals or at bedtime. We pray before each meal, which may not sound like much- but the kids absolutely LOVE it! We take turns in prayer and just spending a moment thanking God. It’s one of my favorite daily routines. If you’ve never heard a 5 year old pray, I’m telling you- it’s the sweetest thing! We also incorporate prayer into the kid’s bedtime routines, and while sometimes they’re fighting the fact that they don’t want to go to bed, it’s not a chore, it’s not even a requirement. It’s a fun way to tell God goodnight and Thank Jesus for all that He’s done.
Consistency is key to a thriving prayer life. Keep these tips in mind during your day to day hustle and bustle, it doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming.
Focus on Quality, Not Quantity: A heartfelt 2-minute prayer can be just as impactful as a longer one.
Be Flexible: Adjust your prayer time to fit your changing schedule instead of skipping it altogether.
Pray Without Ceasing: Remember, prayer isn’t confined to a specific time—it’s an ongoing conversation with God throughout your day.
Remember, prayer isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection. Start small, be intentional, and YES, HAVE FUN! We are allowed to be happy, thriving, grateful hearted humans!!! Prayer doesn’t have to be a chore, make it a fun incorporation into your day. Eventually the Spirit will move and you’ll be praying for strangers on the streets or feel led to pray more because your relationship has begun to grow through these small, repetitive daily acts of growing your relationship with Him.
May God Bless You!
Much Love,
Courtney.
