Switching to working from home can be exciting and overwhelming. Seeking guidance, strength, and peace from God makes the transition smoother. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Leaning on God helps you align your priorities, make better decisions, and stay strong through challenges. Prayer and reflection will help you decide if this lifestyle is part of His plan for you and your family.

The Benefits of Working From Home

  1. More Family Time: You can spend quality time with your children and strengthen your family bonds. A flexible schedule makes it easier to be there for school pick-ups, playtime, and meals together.

  2. Saving Money: No commuting means less spending on gas. Parents may also save on childcare costs by being home more often.

  3. Improved Health: You have time to cook healthy meals, exercise, and take breaks to recharge mentally.

  4. Pursuing Passions: Whether freelancing, running a small business, or working remotely, you can use your God-given talents in your work.

Is Working From Home Right for You?

Before diving in, ask yourself:

  • Are You Self-Disciplined? Can you manage your time without someone supervising you? Working from home means staying focused and setting boundaries.

  • Do You Have Support? Does your family support this decision? Open communication and shared responsibilities make it easier.

  • Are You Financially Ready? Freelancing or starting a business might mean unstable income at first. Budget carefully and consider an emergency fund.

Finding Ambition and Balance

  1. Start with God: Pray, read the Bible, or journal every morning. This helps you focus and sets the tone for the day.

  2. Set Goals: Break your work into small, manageable tasks. Use planners or apps to stay on track.

  3. Create a Workspace: Set up a dedicated area for work to separate it from your personal life.

  4. Make Time for Yourself: Avoid burnout by scheduling rest, hobbies, or quiet time with God.

  5. Stick to a Routine: A consistent schedule keeps you disciplined and productive.

Adjusting Emotionally and Mentally

Working from home can feel isolating. Stay connected with others through Bible studies, online groups, or coffee dates. Remember to give yourself grace as you adjust to this new journey. Mistakes are part of learning and growing.

Understanding the Financial Risks and Rewards

Risks:

  • Unstable Income: Freelancers and new business owners might face inconsistent earnings. Build an emergency fund to help.

  • Start-Up Costs: Setting up a home office or paying for tools might require upfront expenses.

Rewards:

  • Higher Earnings: Many remote workers eventually earn more than in traditional jobs.

  • Tax Deductions: You might qualify for deductions on home office expenses.

How I Did It, What I Do & Where God Is Leading Me

When I first decided to work from home, I was overwhelmed. I prayed constantly for clarity, trusting God to guide me. I started small with freelance projects and learned as I went, balancing work and family responsibilities. God put projects in my path and on my desk after I had finally given up control of what I thought I should do. As we all know, you can monetize off of every platform these days. (I will not suggest something that hasn’t worked or been fruitful for me.)

-Facebook Monetization- If what you’re interested in is content creation, or digital ANYTHING- Facebook is a great monetization tool. There are free classes on Hubspot that allow you to learn the ins and outs of social media, if you aren’t already well-versed…and even if you are, I highly suggest you make it a point to take the courses anyways. Even if you think you already know everything, I assure you, there is always room for more growth and knowledge.

-TikTok- Though I don’t bring in revenue from my own personal TikTok account, my very first contract that I found with a publishing firm, allows me to post content for them on a “faceless page” and they pay me directly. You’ll come to find that in your content creation journey, there are thousands of pages and sites that do this! It’s up to you to decide what you want to post, making sure that it aligns with your beliefs and interests. You can also monetize by just growing as a creator, and making your way into the creator fund.

I began my “UpWork” journey, 5 years ago. I find contracts and gigs on there. I am now “Top Talent” and come highly rated on the platform, which helps me land gigs and other jobs. It may be overwhelming to start on this journey at first, but you have to start somewhere! If freelance work or anything artsy is what you enjoy to do, there is so much room to build and monetize off of it.

Now, I write, design, and create content that reflects my values and passions. I run a few different social media accounts, collaborate with different websites, and create both designs and writing for these various platforms. I help small and large businesses with essential design work to grow their brands. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve relied on God’s strength through every challenge. For me, working from home isn’t just about a career. It’s about using the gifts God gave me to honor Him and bless others.

As for the future, only God knows where this path will take me. I’ve learned to trust His plans, knowing they’re always better than mine. Whether my work grows into something new or shifts entirely, I’ll go where He leads. My latest endeavor he is leading me on is my newsletter. This is free and I encourage you to sign up! If not, that’s ok, too!

Final Thoughts

Working from home takes faith, ambition, and preparation. By leaning on God and planning carefully, you can create a life that benefits your family and honors Him. Success isn’t just about money. It’s about using your time and talents to glorify God and find joy.

Colossians 3:23-24 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward." Let this guide you as you step into your work-from-home journey.
